Football is one of the most widely played sports in the world and many children will experience playing from a young age, whether at school, with friends, in local teams or even in professional environments. 1-2-1 coaching is a chance for any child with a passion for the sport to begin their football journey and help them learn all the basic skills necessary to fulfil their dreams.
As well as our highly successful and popular group football coaching sessions, SoccerKidz offers 1 on 1 youth football training sessions in Enfield for children aged between 6 and 14 years old. Here we look at a few of the main advantages of being coached individually.
Undivided Attention
1-on-1 coaching has become very popular recently because it is much easier and quicker for a child to learn if they are the sole focus of attention for the coach. If they are serious about pursuing a career in football, then this type of coaching can provide the skills necessary to become a more confident football player.
Each coaching session provides a safe environment for the child to develop and improve their skills, making them a more independent and professional player in competitive matches.
Another major advantage of 1-2-1 coaching is that there are no distractions for either the player or the coach, so they can both devote their entire focus to the session.
Easier to Tailor Session to Child’s Needs
A 1-2-1 coaching session makes it easier for the coach to monitor the child’s skills and development, without having to accommodate lots of pupils of varying abilities at the same time. The coach can work on eliminating any weaknesses and ensuring that strengths are maintained by adapting their coaching style to tailor to the player’s needs.
Each training session can be adapted halfway through if the coach spots any potential room for improvement. This is most effective when the coach notices a bad technique being used repeatedly that needs to be corrected. The coach will have time not only to correct the mistake, but also to explain to the player the mistake in more detail, so they can work on eliminating bad habits.
When training in a team, a player’s individual needs can often be overlooked. Working 1-on-1 means the training can be individually tailored to focus on technique, flexibility, speed, agility and power with and without the ball, and build strength in all areas of ability.
Boosting a Child’s Confidence
It can often be very demoralising for youngsters if they don’t get picked for the school team or are the last ones to be selected during a PE or Games lesson. There could be many explanations for this. They may, for example be nervous about playing in a group situation, or perhaps they haven’t ever played a proper game of football before.
A 1-2-1 session will help improve their skills and boost their confidence so they will be more at ease when it comes to playing competitive games in a team environment. It will also build resilience, confidence and awareness of their strengths and weaknesses on the pitch.
Good Grounding in all the Basic Skills
1-2-1 training sessions need not be about identifying stars of the future, nor is it about picking out certain individuals who have the potential to be a professional striker or defender.
Instead 1-2-1 training sessions provide players with a good grounding in all the basic skills of the game, such as passing, tackling, shooting and dribbling. They can also help with the more advanced football training methods, such as finishing techniques, speed, strength, fitness, technical ability and ball mastery skills. This will stand players in good stead whatever level of football they end up playing at, whether it’s as a professional, at local league level or five-a-side friendlies.
