- The Player is The Centre of Attention
While there are undoubted advantages to group sessions – football is a 22-person game after all – individual tuition ensures that the player being trained receives all the attention they need.
There can be a lot of noise involved in group sessions that make it difficult for younger children in particular to hear the coaches. It benefits the coach too as they can more easily identify a player’s abilities, along with which style of coaching most benefits the child.
- Strengths Can be Improved – and Weaknesses Eradicated
In football, players need to have a good basic grounding and competence in all aspects of the game, especially if they want to make a career out of the game. However, every player is different and will have strong and weak points to their game.
If a player is right-footed, you can encourage them to use it thanks to constant drills (practice makes perfect), but with a 1-1 programme their left foot can be developed too. You probably won’t have time to do this in a group session – at least, not to the same extent.
Other aspects of their game can be improved too, such as tackling, shooting, and crossing, without losing the qualities that set them apart from other players.
- It Improves Their Mental Strength
With a 1-1 session, the player is constantly being challenged. This means they have to ‘own’ both their successes and failures in each session, and learn from them in a positive way.
This can be transferred into a matchday environment too, making them more independent and competitive individuals whose drive can be harnessed for the benefit of the whole team. It should also make them more confident and independent in other aspects of life too, which is particularly important for more introverted children.
- It Improves their Physical and Mental Fitness
Because the player is ‘on their own’ they will have to do a lot more of the physical work. This, too, will show up in matchday performances, particularly towards the end of matches.
And better fitness means better health, which can have beneficial knock-on effects in other areas. Physical activity boosts dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin levels in the brain which help to improve concentration, motivation, memory, and mood. Children in a good mood are able to focus more and are less impulsive. Put simply, they learn better because they feel better.

Our personal training sessions, which are held on the grass pitches at Enfield Playing Fields, are aimed at children aged 6-14. We will provide all the equipment required – you just need to provide the correct clothing and kit.
Although we ask that parents or guardians be on hand, all SoccerKidz coaches abide by Best Practice and Child Protection Regulations put in place by the FA. Our coaches are also DBS-checked and proficient in Emergency First Aid.
